EndNote is a reference management software program which helps students to maintain a reference library and then quickly export references and citations into their assignments.

  • Morling Theology students who are enrolled in ACT subjects can access a copy of the EndNote program for free by applying through the ACT website https://www.actheology.edu.au/endnote/ (students need an ACT number when applying).
  • Morling Counselling and Education students can use EndNote WEB (also called EndNote Online) which is a free resource: https://www.myendnoteweb.com/ .

More information about the use of EndNote and EndNote Online can be found on the Study Skills Page on Moodle.

Problems with updating to EndNote 20?

You might find these instructions, from our Dean of Bible and Theology Tim MacBride helpful

1. Don't panic - it's probably because you have the EndNote library file and associated data file on a network drive somewhere, rather than stored locally, giving a generic error when it tries to write to the network location.

2. Copy (at least temporarily) your library file (e.g. My EndNote Library.enl) and the associated data file (e.g. My EndNote Library.Data) into a local folder on your C drive. The recommended solution suggested C:\Users\<your username>\ as the destination folder.

Note: make sure you are copying the .Data file that has exactly the same name as your library file, or they won't match.

3. Open the .enl library file from the new destination in (2) and the conversion should work fine. They will create new library and data files in the new C: location.

4. You can put the .enl and .Data file elsewhere again if you wish and then reopen the .enl file from that changed location OR maintain a regular backup of them on the network. The former is what I'm doing; the latter is what EndNote recommends.
